Class Experience

or 20 minutes of assessment, a student will be engaged in conversation, reading, and writing.

*Class Schedule*
Introduction - 2 min
Reading & Speaking - 10 min
Writing - 8 min

A class starts with a warm-up, ice-breaking conversation about getting to know one another through questions such as "What is your name?" and "What is your favorite book?" Students will get to know me well during this time.

After a conversation, a student will be asked to read words and passages based on their level. Students will be able to view the materials via screen sharing. The student's decoding skills, fluency, pronunciation, and comprehension level will be measured.

Assessment ends with writing, where the student will utilize a paper and writing utensil (e.g., pencil, marker, etc.) to demonstrate his or her writing skills. Writing activities will vary depending on the student's level. It will be as simple as writing a first letter of a CVC word (e.g., cat, dog) to write a paragraph based on a question.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I teach various classes with a wide range of learners. I have M.S in Special Education Early Childhood from Johns Hopkins University. I completed Doctorate level courses from George Washington University in Curriculum & Instructions. I have 12 years of teaching students from toddlers to adults in diverse settings (large group, small group, 1:1) in the United States and Korea. I'm working as a Special Education Resources Teacher for 1st & 2nd grade in DC Public Schools. I worked as a Preschool/Pre-K Lead Teacher/Special Education Teacher at DC Public Schools before. One fun thing about me is that I love traveling and have traveled to countries on 5 continents other than Antarctica and Africa! I wish to visit all the continents at some point in my life.

Apart from my experiences, I am a firm believer in life-long learning. I found joy in learning at a young age which allowed me to become a person of passion for learning. My mom was the person who exposed me to the fun side of learning and I want to share my joy for learning with you and/or your child!

I also believe in the importance of building a relationship in learning. I wish to build a relationship and rapport with my students which will allow me to better understand students and their needs. With my passion for educating students with special needs, I am used to meeting students with a wide range of needs (from a student with multiple disabilities, such as emotional disturbance and autism, to a student with high functioning autism). Also, my teaching background is in an inclusive classroom setting where students with and without special needs are included as a part of the community. In all the classes I teach, I design with such a mindset to make sure I deliver the best support and service to all my students.
