This class will introduce students to commonly used idiomatic expressions. Students who speak English as a foreign language will find this class helpful to learn the figurative language that native speakers use in every day life. During each class, we will learn 10-15 new idioms. We will hear them used in context, we will practice saying them in scripted dialogues and then students will try to use the idioms independently. Students will be encouraged to try new phrases and have fun learning. We will use a variety of reading, writing, and speaking exercises to learn and reinforce student comprehension of figurative language. I think we learn best by doing. I want students to have the opportunity to hear and use new phrases so that they become familiar and adept at using them. Students should be able to speak English at B1, intermediate level.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to use and understand figurative language, metaphors, idiomatic expressions and some slang.
