Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Students will engineer a solar oven to melt chocolate and or a marshmallow for a s’more. Class will begin with learning about solar energy, and how solar ovens cook food. Next students will learn about the design for their solar oven. Students will then engineer their solar oven using the materials listed below. Finally, students will put their solar oven to the test after class. Students will share their results and or pictures by posting on the class page.

*The solar oven works best on a warm sunny day. Depending on the amount of sun and temperature it may be best for students to test their solar oven on an ideal day with lots of sunshine and warm temperatures; different than the day of class.

*It is not necessary for the student to use chocolate if allergic to chocolate.
