Class Experience

NOT a Minecraft Java Edition class, this is for bedrock edition ONLY (PlayStation, Switch, iPad/tablet, PC Windows, Xbox).

In this class we will learn the basics of Minecraft's most engineered feature: REDSTONE! We'll learn the vocabulary of it's different components (redstone dust, torches, repeaters, comparators, observers, etc.) and each of their functions. By the end of the class, we will have used every item in the redstone directory in Minecraft and combine them together to make things that are automatized, useful, and FUN in gameplay.

Each class I will show a common example of how a redstone contraption works, focusing on the new component of redstone that it relies on. After I show how it's built, students will make their own version. Then, I challenge them to make adjustments or decorate it so it fits nicely in their growing base full of neat redstone designs.

Each day I will post the picture of what we built with instructions on how we did it so students can make their own version in their minecraft worlds.

Class 1: Redstone dust, triggers, & pistons: understanding how they're placed. We'll build some important traps every player needs to know!
Class 2: Dispensers & droppers! What's the difference? Automatic armor stands, netherportals that open and close, and more!
Class 3: Observers & hoppers: how to build automatic systems that are very useful in farms. Intricate storage systems and automatic furnaces.
Class 4: Clocks, but not the ones that tell the time. Here we will automate canons or trashcans, and make a complicated parkour map with moving parts.
Class 5: Rails: how to make a train station and minecart delivery system. We'll end with some fun games that build on our knowledge of what we learned.

Parental Guidance
Please see the attached document regarding getting students online to join our class server before day 1. Students will need to have individual gamer tags necessary to join the private server (realm) of our class. This means they will need to set this up with their Microsoft account, or the child account connected to the parent's Microsoft account. Please do not list your child's gamer tag in the class page. That can be message to me directly, or you can wait until day 1 where I will share the realm code to join.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Led by a 5-year Outschool veteran with top-rated reviews, my immersive camps and classes offer structured, creative play in a safe and inspiring space.

I am a teacher who combines my love of video games and fictional stories with subjects like personal development, history, psychology, and anthropology, and story-telling. I want to stimulate learning within the environments students find themselves most engaged, whether they be in virtual worlds or ones in their imagination!

I have 10 years of teaching experience, half with older English-language learners and the other with children ages 7-15. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology and use this degree to help students reflect on others' perspectives. My philosophy of teaching ensures students hit every spot in the learning cycle. When my students grapple with new concepts, they will reflect on the connections these concepts have to their personal lives, and actively experiment with them in activities that rely on teamwork, problem solving, and promote creativity. Creativity is my bread and butter. It is my personal wish to have every student ignite their love of learning by creating something they can proudly show off to parents and friends.

Besides being a fan of video games like World of Warcraft, Elder Scrolls, and Zelda, I love movies, reading, hiking with my dog, practicing my light-saber wielding, and dancing to electronic music. I have lived abroad and traveled to over 10 countries, and enjoy studying other cultures and ways of living.
