Class Experience

This 6 day chess competition is all about improving your skills, engaging in friendly competition and enjoying some epic games of chess!
Each week's matches will be conducted on my OutSchool exclusive chess platform, https://CohenChessClub.com
Many students in my arena chess clubs have requested the chance to play in a chess competition with longer time and an equal amount of rounds played per student. Each day of class, students will be paired based upon their results in the tournament thus far using the Swiss method of tournament pairing where the goal is to pair students with those who have a similar score in the tournament.

Looking for an ongoing chess tournament club? I have 9 clubs scheduled throughout the week so everyone can find a day that fits their schedule.

As the class length is 55 minutes, each student will receive 15 minutes on their clock. I will help students who are done with their games before the class period ends analyze their match and provide helpful strategies that will aid them in future games. Students who complete their matches close to the end of class can request an analysis at the beginning of the following class. At the end of the 6 round tournament virtual trophies will be presented to the top participants. Awards will also be gin out for best game of the tournament and other potential accolades.

While students do not need any tournament experience to be in our club, but should have a fair amount of experience playing online chess in either my chess clubs or another organized chess competition. For those who have played official USCF rated chess matches, I would like to limit these tournaments to players rated under 1300 OTB. This is the equivalent of 1400 on Chess.com or 1700 on Lichess. Lower rated players to chess are welcome as the opportunity to play more experienced players is how we get better at chess. All players should have a good understanding of the game of chess itself. We will need at least 8 players to properly pair a 6 round tournament so I will contact parents if a shift in the schedule is necessary.

My fondest memories of my childhood revolve around chess tournaments. I played competitively in chess tournaments beginning at the age of 11 until I began running my own chess clubs as a middle school teacher. I owe the game of chess for teaching me patience, good sportsmanship and self-confidence. As a scholastic player in Florida in the 1990's I had the honor of being named Florida Elementary Chess Champion two times and hold a chess rating of approximately 1800. I love offering that same excitement that I found as a child, to my students on OutSchool
