LEARNING GOALS
To have students:
--Employ reading skills and strategies to construct meaning from text
--Describe the thoughts, opinions, and questions that arise as they read, view, or listen to a text
--Evaluate explicit and implicit information to demonstrate awareness of the author’s style of the time
--Extend meaning by analyzing elements of fiction and mythology
--Defend their interpretations of literature by producing in-depth, validated responses
--Understand and appreciate that literature represents, recreates, shapes and explores human thoughts and experiences
As a writer and veteran English teacher, Mr. LeCara has a deep love and respect for mythology. It's not enough to just access Ancient myths. There is excitement in exploring stories passed down through various cultures and discovering how so many of these stories share similar details (characters, themes, etc), regardless of their location. Aside from further awareness of how these myths connect to works in today's films, literature, advertising, space, and so much more, LeCara hope to inspire a love of mythology that encourages an interest in exploring other cultures as well. What is covered in this course is only the beginning of a much larger tapestry of wonderfully crafted and fascinating narratives that are all interconnected.
