US Grade 1
In this interactive class, we will read a book to practice reading fluently. We will learn/review 4-5 sight words and 4-5 story words daily. We will discuss any new or unknown vocabulary words. We will read a new story daily, alternating between fiction and non-fiction. We will also practice writing, reading, and playing with words. During these lessons, your child will have an opportunity to read, write, and learn. I will help students refine their reading skills, decoding strategies, and comprehension skills. Students will have plenty of opportunities to participate. I have over 20 years of experience teaching young readers. Students should be familiar with letters and letter sounds, digraphs (ch, sh, th, wh, ph), blends, and show signs of a beginning reader (can read sentences and have a sight word vocabulary of at least 110 words).
