Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
1) Actively participate in movement, games, and crafts to support motor skills and social-emotional development
2) Learn basic ballet steps and terms
3) Be able to memorize and execute 75% of the choreographed ballet dances
4) Engage in discussions with peers, both prompted and unprompted
I have over 6 years of dance and theater instructing experience for large scale competition studios, theatres, and preschool programs and have been directing community theatre productions for 3 years. As a professional dancer with a Group Fitness Instructor Certification, I also have an in-depth knowledge of movement science and safe practices. Alongside my Bachelor’s in Theatre Studies, I also hold two Associate degrees in Child Development and Social and Behavioral Sciences- making me well versed in instructional techniques for students of all ages.
General & Attire: Dancers are welcome to wear a leotard and tights or moveable street clothes. For the ballet portion of class, ballet shoes are recommended, but bare feet are also welcomed. A distraction-free space where you can freely and safely move is also recommended, as well as having a water bottle close by. On the final day of class, students are encouraged to wear a costume for our “mini-performance”! Students can stick to the Encanto theme or wear any of their favorite dress up/dance clothes. Wearing a costume is entirely optional. Crafts: -print out the “Craft Kit” document (provided in the classroom at least 2 weeks prior to the camp start date) (** this craft kit contains all printable templates needed for each day of crafting and extra coloring pages) -8-12 sheets of tissue paper in various colors -5-10 pieces of construction paper in various colors (you may want have yellow paper on hand, too, for butterflies, but color choices are entirely up to the student) -5 pieces of plain white paper -markers/crayons/colored pencils -scissors -glue stick/glue -optional: glitter glue/stickers/gems (items to decorate crafts or embellish) -optional: pipe cleaners (in place of paper stems for flowers)
10 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Dance is a physical activity which should always be done with parental supervision. Dancing on a flat and uncluttered floor space is encouraged to help eliminate potential hazards. Having water close by and taking breaks when needed is also encouraged. If the child has a physical limitation or medical condition which is aggravated by movement, please consult a doctor before participating.

No outside work is required, but it would be helpful to prepare the craft supplies in advanced by printing the “Craft Kit” document which will contain all of our craft templates and gathering the necessary supplies before Day #1 of camp.
Miss Lexa does not own and did not create the music or characters used in class. All movies and music referenced are used only as an instructional tool to support learning.
