Assignments
1 hour per week. For the SEL tutoring sessions, learners will receive assignments that focus on journaling and self-assessments. These assignments will encourage students to reflect on real-world situations related to the session's topics. For example, after discussing emotional regulation or social interactions, students may be asked to journal their feelings about a recent social experience, practice techniques they’ve learned, or assess how they handled a particular situation. This approach not only reinforces the concepts discussed but also promotes active learning and personal growth. These assignments are intended to be flexible and personalized based on each student’s needs and abilities, encouraging independence and self-awareness. If needed, the specific tasks will be adjusted to match the child’s progress, but the core focus remains on integrating SEL skills into daily life.
Progress Report
Progress reports will provide detailed feedback on the student’s growth, including areas where they are excelling and areas that may need further attention. These reports will be shared regularly to keep parents informed about their child’s development in SEL skills, such as emotional regulation, social interactions, and self-advocacy.

Class Experience

In this 1-to-1 Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) tutoring, students with disabilities will engage in personalized sessions focused on building life skills such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, and social skills. Each session is crafted to address the individual needs of the child and will cover topics such as understanding and managing emotions, developing social interactions, and improving communication skills in real-life scenarios. We’ll also focus on building independence and self-advocacy, essential skills for thriving in social settings and daily life.

Sessions are structured with a balance of guided learning, interactive activities, and reflective exercises. I will use a variety of tools and methods, including role-playing, social stories, and visual aids, to enhance learning. Students will have plenty of opportunities to interact with me and actively participate in exercises. I’ll also provide clear, consistent feedback and guidance throughout each session.

Learning Goals

Self-Awareness: Students will develop an understanding of their emotions, strengths, and challenges. They will learn to identify their feelings and recognize how emotions impact their behavior and interactions.
Emotional Regulation: Students will practice strategies for managing their emotions, such as deep breathing, mindfulness, and self-soothing techniques. They will learn to cope with stress, anxiety, and frustration in healthy ways.

Learning Needs
This class supports students with ADHD, Dyslexia, and ASD by using individualized strategies and flexible approaches tailored to their unique strengths and challenges, helping them thrive in a supportive, engaging learning environment.
Parental Guidance
For the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) tutoring sessions, there are no specific class contents that may be upsetting or require safety precautions. However, as the sessions may involve discussions around emotions, social interactions, and real-life scenarios, some sensitive topics could arise based on the student's experiences. I will ensure that these discussions are handled with care and age-appropriate sensitivity. If parents/guardians have concerns about specific topics, I encourage them to communicate with me directly so we can adjust the sessions accordingly to suit the child's emotional and developmental needs.

I have 10+ years of experience working with children, particularly those with disabilities, in both educational and tutoring settings. While I am currently pursuing a Doctorate in Performance Improvement Leadership, I hold a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Special Education, which equipped me with the skills to develop individualized support strategies.

I worked with students who have ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Dyslexia, and other learning challenges in both in-person and online environments. Over the years, I developed a deep understanding of social-emotional learning (SEL) and its importance in helping children navigate emotional regulation, social skills, and independence.

I often lead professional development sessions on integrating social-emotional learning into classrooms and am passionate about using evidence-based methods to support children’s growth. I tailor my approach to meet each child’s unique needs, utilizing strategies like role-playing, social stories, and interactive activities to help them thrive.
