Class Experience

It's hard to be a girl. Navigating friendships and developing a positive self image is complicated. This is especially apparent when considering the way that girls are surrounded with messages that tell them who they "should" be, and what they "should" change about themselves in order to be "good enough." In this ongoing course, girls will be empowered with positive affirmations, learn friendship, communication, community building, and assertiveness skills. We will boldly state that every girl is enough, and celebrate what makes each girl unique. We will also have lots of fun together. There are a rotation of several sessions with different topics that we will cycle through.

Topic 1:
Positive Affirmations:
Girls will create a list of 5 positive things they are by completing the sentence I am _____. The last blank will say "I am Enough." We will share and discuss that each of us is enough as we are, and we are all valuable. We will listen to pop song, "I am Enough," and discuss the message of the song.

Topic 2:
Community Building:
We will discuss what a community is, who is in our community, and how each of us can contribute to a positive, supportive community.

Topic 3:
Self Care:
What is self care? Why does self care matter? How can I create an actionable self care plan? We will address all of these questions and more as well as creating a self care plan.

Topic 4:
Assertiveness and Communication:
We will talk about the importance of good communication, and the difference between passive, assertive, and aggressive communication. We will talk about the importance of being assertive, and practice assertive tone of voice/statements. We will close our meeting with compliments for everyone.

Topic 5:
Resilience

Topic 6:
Managing Anxiety

Topic 7:
Positive Thinking (Inner Coach vs Inner Critic)

This class is structured like an after school club. Each session can stand alone, and missing one session will not make a learner fall behind.
