Class Experience
My 1-2-1 gaming mentoring classes provide individualized support and guidance to autistic, shy or individuals with special needs who are interested in gaming. Here are some key points about the importance of these classes and what might happen in a typical 40-minute class: Importance: - Gaming can be a valuable tool for individuals to improve their social skills, cognitive abilities, and overall well-being. - Mentoring classes provide a safe and supportive environment to explore the world of gaming and develop important skills that can improve their quality of life. - Safety is vitally important online, and I will always weave information about keeping safe online into my sessions. 40-Minute Class: - The mentor and the mentee will work together on a specific gaming goal, such as learning a new skill or completing a challenging level. - The mentor will provide personalized support and guidance tailored to the individual needs of the mentee. - Problem-solving strategies and coping mechanisms will be developed for any challenges the mentee may encounter while gaming. - Social skills such as communication and collaboration in a gaming environment will be practiced. - The mentor can help the mentee explore new gaming opportunities and find like-minded individuals to connect with. Skills Covered Weekly: - Gaming skills: learning new games, understanding game mechanics, improving reaction times and accuracy, etc. - Social skills: practicing communication and collaboration in a gaming environment, building relationships with fellow gamers, etc. - Cognitive skills: developing problem-solving strategies, improving memory and attention, etc. - Emotional regulation: learning how to manage frustration and disappointment while gaming. - Goal setting: identifying achievable gaming goals and tracking progress. What games can you play? - As long as I know in advance I am willing to play the games based on your learners interest. I am familiar with games such as Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox, Call of Duty, Terraria to name a few. If your learner is passionate about a game, let me know and I will accommodate, and they can tell me all about it! Please note: It will be necessary for learners to share gamertags (of whatever games we play) with me, and to be my in-game friend for the duration of the class. When sending me your name, please send in a private message, as posting publicly to the classroom violates Outschool policy.
