This class is all about Compassion and Kindness. These are character traits that need to be explicitly taught in order for them to develop. Empathy is an essential skill for children to learn, and practice daily. 

We will start with introductions and students will have a chance to share their thoughts before reading a story that demonstrates empathy and kindness.

As a group we will then work on a short empathy activity to give a visual example of how our words and actions can affect others. This activity will be a discussion on simple scenarios such as, "Someone laughs at Jake when he says the wrong answer" or "Betty is sad because she has to take her dog to the veterinarian." We will look at both sides of the scenario and imagine how all who are involved may feel.

This class will stick to simple scenarios during discussion. If the topic veers off to too personal, we will redirect to go back to the general discussion of simple day to day examples of where we can find and show empathy.

This is a social class, and students are encouraged to share their thoughts throughout.
