25 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one-time class, we will go over simple emotions and how it feels in our body. We will briefly go over the Pre-frontal Cortex, the Hippocampus, and the Amygdala. We will also go over different coping tools and self-care ideas to feel better when hard emotions come. This class is meant to help kids understand, recognize, and feel empowered to help manage their hard emotions. The course encourages interaction between the students and the teacher, including practicing the techniques and tips and having small discussions. My slides use visual based learning techniques to help the kids remember what we are learning. I encourage students to practice outside of their class and teach their families what they learned.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to normalize and recognize their emotions. Students will learn what is going on inside their brain when they feel strong emotions. Students will learn what coping tools are and 11 simple tools to calm down hard emotions (I feel statements, sleep, exercise, fun activities, food, the color game, cooking breathing, balloon breathing, hand to heart, square breathing, and happy place).
