I will be teaching students tools to help manage their emotions before they become to BIG to handle. Students will explore the tools and how to use them to manage their BIG emotions. They will learn how to identify different emotion and give the feeling a name. Students will work on a variety of self-esteem/self-awareness to promote a positive self-image. Problem solving skills and identifying appropriate behaviors and responses to emotions will be practiced with games, group/independent participation to be utilized in everyday life. And many different ways they can spread and show kindness.
I have been working with young learners for 18 years and have been educated on social emotional learning through many classes. I also have a 7 year old son with who has adhd and sensory processing dysfunction, who has lead me to attend classes, read countless books and lots of research about managing BIG emotions. I am not a social worker or counselor. I am a teacher of early childhood and a mom with almost two decades of evolving new ways to teach students and little learners ways to understand what these emotions are and to assist them in discovering ways that work for them to shrink and clam them. This day and age just keeps getting more and more difficult for little ones. Life moves so fast, video games and youtube have merged with a daily routine, and covid has impacted social skills and emotional irregularities in everyone. To me it is so important to help these students to explore and learn, in a fun and positive way.
There will not be any assigned homework as this class is a stand alone class, however I will provide materials if you choose to utilize at home to continue to work on the student's growing mindset.
Each class there will be different materials that we use. I will post in the class what will be needed for that lesson/activity. Most of the materials will be a print out, writing utensil, art medium (crayons, paint, colored pencils, ext.), and a plain piece of paper.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
