Emotional Awareness for Young Children
This is a one off lesson to introduce young children to different emotions and strategies we can use when we are not feeling good.

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
During this class we will read the story My Changing Emotions to learn about how different emotions make us feel in our bodies. We will learn strategies to support us to feel better when we ae feeling scared, angry or sad as well as talking about positive emotions calm, happy and loved. Children will have the opportunity to interact with the story, sharing their own experiences and feelings and trying out some of the strategies we learn. After the story children will have he opportunity to reflect on how they are feeling and share it with the class if they wish to. Finally we will practice two mindfulness and breathing exercises as a class. When children practice mindfulness and breathing when they are feeling good it is easier for them to draw on this when they are not.
Learning Goals
Children can name six emotions and relate them to their feelings and experiences
Children learn strategies to help when they are feeling sad, angry or scared
