Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
This emerging readers class is for students learning to read. Learners will learn to read in small groups to practice phonemic awareness skills. This is a cooperative reading group with no more than 4 students to ensure each learner gets a good amount of reading time with support. During each meeting learners will take turns reading out loud entertaining stories with phonic repetition and rhythmic text. I will not rush to correct mistakes, but will guide and prompt learners as needed. If time allows, we will also discuss text content and answer questions to check for comprehension. Sight words as well as phonemes and phonics will be practiced. Please be sure learners are attending on a device large enough to read text shared in zoom classroom on the screen.

Each class, we will read a new book in the series. After a full rotation, we will start again at the beginning of the book list:
June 21: "Ted In A Red Bed"
June 23: "Ted's Shed"
June 28: "Toad Makes A Road"

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am excited to meet you! I am an enthusiastic teacher and believe learning should be fun. Learning is enhanced for a child when it is presented in a context made relative to their interests.

I graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences. I have taught children for over 15 years. My background includes teaching EFL online to learners aged 4-16 as well as teaching preschool.

I live near Seattle, Washington with my husband and two children. We also have a Siberian Husky, two tuxedo cats, two ferrets, a leopard gecko and a crested gecko. Outside of teaching, I love cooking, volunteering at my children's school and traveling with my family. I look forward to fun and creativity with your child in my classroom!
