Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
Learners will be introduced to writing by learning the difference between a word and a sentence. They will also understand the many different purposes for writing and be led through the process of writing a sentence. Each lesson will build upon the one before and I will model the process through guided writing.

These are the topics and skills that will be covered:
-What is an author?
-Words are made up of letters/sounds and sentences are made up of words
-We write for many purposes: labels, letters, lists, stories
-Sounding out words when writing
-Making a plan before writing
-Using capital letters at the beginning of a sentence and for important names and places
-Using spaces between words
-Using end punctuation
-What can we do if we can't think of what to write
-How do we expand our writing with more than one sentence

A parent hand-out will be provided with the first class explaining how to keep students writing several times a week and how to make it fun!

Optional Assignments to reinforce skills taught will also be provided.
