This course is designed for students who want to express themselves more clearly, creatively, and confidently in writing.

Whether your learner is bursting with ideas or unsure where to start, this four-week writing camp helps them build essential writing skills in a fun, supportive environment. Through sentence mastery, figurative language, paragraph structure, and essay writing, students will gain practical tools that carry over into school assignments—and beyond.

🗂 Course Highlights

Week 1

Class 1: Sentence Structure – Learn to identify and craft simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences

Class 2: Figurative Language Part 1 – Practice alliteration, hyperbole, and onomatopoeia to make your writing pop

Week 2

Class 1: Figurative Language Part 2 – Master metaphors, similes, idioms, and personification

Class 2: Paragraph Writing – Learn to write clear topic sentences, supporting details, and conclusions (expository + opinion)

Week 3

Class 1 & 2: Essay Writing – Use structured outlines to draft cohesive, multi-paragraph essays with clarity and confidence

Week 4

Class 1 & 2: Peer Editing & Final Touches – Practice giving and receiving feedback, reflect on progress, and revise with purpose

📝 Homework & Feedback
Assignments are given after each class

Submit work at least 12 hours before the next class for detailed instructor feedback

All work is optional, but highly encouraged to maximize progress

Workbook 📚
You will see a workbook provided when you enroll. This is optional homework for the class, meant to supplement what we do together. We won't review it in class, but I will provide feedback outside of class if you complete and send it to me via a private message.

Joining the Class 💻
There is no Zoom link or ID/passcode needed. Outschool has embedded a bluish-purple "Join Meeting" button in the student's classroom. Click that button to enter the class. Please make sure you know how to log in before class. Teachers do not have access to your login info. For any tech issues, contact support@outschool or use the help button.

With a bachelor’s degree in Biology 🧬 and Spanish, Mary combines her TESOL certification and five years of teaching experience in the U.S., Spain, and Colombia. Her global perspective and passion make her classes engaging and impactful! 💼📚

SAMANTHA SPANN
Ms. Sam is a certified teacher 📚 with six years of experience working with diverse learners. She is also a mental health intern 🧠. She holds both a Master's Degree and a Bachelor's Degree from Trinity International University. Her passion is to support her students both academically and emotionally 💖. KRISTEN PAULSON
Kristen’s passion for teaching began early, and she brings seven years of experience in Tennessee, teaching grades 1, 3, and 6, as well as English Language Learners.
