Does your student clam up with the thought of writing? Are they at a loss for words when they see an essay prompt? This course will help your student to overcome their writing fears and struggles in this two-week writing workshop on expository essays. Students will learn the different steps of the writing process and go through them to produce an expository essay. In the first session, students will learn about the writing process through slides and classroom discussion. They will also brainstorm writing ideas during the first session. During the second session, students will discuss the drafting process of writing and work through an example with the teacher. Students will then begin the drafting process independently. In the third session, students will continue the writing workshop with a slide show on revising and editing and then continue their drafting process. In the final session, students will polish their rough drafts into a final draft presenting their final product to the class. Students should be able to write multiple paragraphs at an age-appropriate level. I take a laid back, but interactive role in helping your child learn the steps of the writing process and how to write a proper introduction, body, and conclusion with detail. I will work with students through the drafting process and give them individual feedback on their writing. I prefer the use of Google Docs, but will work with MS Word or photos of written work. This class is for students ages 13-17. I also offer this class for students ages 8-12.
