In this 8 week course learners will learn lots of exciting facts about some of the wildest animals on our planet while practicing reading comprehension skills, discussion and writing.

This is an 8 week course where children will be able to explore and grow in confidence in learning about different types of animals while practicing comprehension, discussion and science skills. We will explore the wild world of nature together from geckos to jellyfish, from stingrays to elephants. We will explore amazing facts and share information. Looking at animals who are common to animals that are almost extinct! Children will read through passages and answer and discuss information...

I am an experienced classroom primary / elementary school teacher and head of year. I have taught in London, North Africa and the Middle East and am now based in the U.S. With many years of experience and enjoy helping children progress in their academic journey. I pride myself on ensuring that the materials are educational and engaging and that children leave the lesson knowing more than they started. Progressing and moving forward with confidence. Teaching comprehension skills, cross curricular links and learning all about animals is a key focus for my teaching and an area of science that I am really passionate about.

Children will need a pencil and paper or a mini whiteboard and pen. Squared paper is great but plain is fine. It is very useful if learners are able to use basic Zoom tools such as the pen tool or the typing tool. This isn't essential, but for older learners it is beneficial.

There will be times that I will send links to useful videos. In order to access some of the resources you will need to have access to Youtube. You will not need to have a Youtube account and the links will be sent through the. Outschool platform. Nearpod From time to time, optional NearPod activities will be provide for self-paced completion outside of class. What is NearPod? NearPod is an app approved by Outschool. It can be be accessed with a code and link provided by the teacher. Nearpod is free with an account that parents / guardians will need to set up. Games will be interactive for the learner, support from the parent might be needed at first until learners get used to it but parents / guardians are always encouraged to check activities to ensure they are appropriate for their family’s needs. If NearPod is used during a live class, then the teacher will give notice of this in the classroom. There will also be occasional, optional assessments will be available in NearPod.
