Description
Class Experience
Students will gain a basic knowledge of the elements of the periodic table, their properties and why they take part in reactions. I will introduce the story of where they came from, how they were discovered, what will happen to them in the future, and why they are central to our day to day lives - without us even giving them much thought.
I am from a scientific and engineering background. I hold a first degree in electronics and a masters' degree in computer science. An electronics degree does require some knowledge of chemistry and people are often surprised by my knowledge. I have long been interested in subjects such as cosmology and biological evolution in addition to chemistry.
Students are encouraged to do some background reading, and be prepared to ask questions in the next class. After all, science is all about asking questions, and finding fact based answers to those questions!
This will be upon parental or student request.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
