Students will learn the three basic chess strategies to help them improve their games by providing goals for them to achieve in every move. 1. Quick and efficient development of the pieces at the beginning of the game 2. How to keep your pieces safe 3. How to take your opponent's unsafe pieces
I have been a chess player for over 35 years and I have been coaching chess for 15 years. I am rated 2200 on Lichess.org and 1800 on Chess.com. My puzzle ratings on both Lichess.org and Chess.com have exceeded 2700.
My class does not offer any formal homework, however I will provide several free and child-friendly resources where students may continue their training according to their own desire and need.
I encourage students to take notes during the class so that they have study materials to take with them at the end of the class. While teaching my class I will use lichess.org to provide a chess board for demonstration purposes. Students are NOT REQUIRED to make an account. During my class I will challenge one of my students to a game by sending a link through the zoom chat. If your child is chosen to play they will click on the link which will take them to lichess.org, where they will be able to play a game of chess with me anonymously. They will not need to make an account to play or give any personal information to the website to participate. I will mainly use this site for demonstration of chess moves, and I will share my screen with the students while doing so.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Although this course does not provide a formal assessment, the class is filled in informal assessments to measure how well and quickly students are absorbing the new material. This course is intended to be an introduction to my other courses which I am in the process of creating.
1 hour per week in class, and no time outside of class.
This class does not include any upsetting or scary topics that would require learners to take extra safety precautions.
No books, articles, will be used in this class however I use the following chess websites to provide visuals for the class: 1. Chess.com 2.Lichess.org
