In this 7 week class, explore the elements of art while drawing and painting from the natural world. Line, texture, shape, form, color, value, and space will be discussed as a new topic each week.
Class experience
In this 7 week class, students will learn about 7 different elements of art - line, texture, shape, form, color, value, and space - while sketching and painting objects found in nature. Students will explore each element of art in depth each week, with new objects from nature every week. Students may bring to class with them something collected from the natural world - a leaf, a flower, a branch or twig for example, to draw and paint. We will use pencils to sketch, and then watercolor paints...
Students will learn 7 elements of art Students will learn sketching, drawing and watercolor painting skills Students will gain confidence in their artistic ability Students will gain a new way of looking at nature and the natural world
Pencil, eraser, watercolor paints, watercolor paper*, assorted watercolor brushes (must include a small round brush**), white paint or white paint pen for details, clean water, paper towels. *Watercolor paper: can be spiral bound or loose leaf watercolor paper. 140lb paper is ideal because the paper is thicker. **The brush I will demonstrate with is a Loew-Cornell Round Size 4. You can use a similar brush, there is a wide variety of prices. For beginners, you can use a less expensive brush. Please make sure that the shape is the same. Any questions on materials, please ask. I will help you find supplies.
