Class Experience
Come learn more about this wonderful field of study from Mrs. Collins a certified science teacher and Zoology instructor. She will provide 6 weeks worth of discovery. Join our group and enjoy lots of zoo themed drawings, scenes, play-doh animals, dioramas, and crafts. In addition, many fun fact videos and virtual zoo Youtube links will be provided. Themain project will be a fictional zoo that students will create. Two weeks will be devoted to creating the zoo with recommendations along the way and examples. For example, will your zoo have a playground, petting zoo, or coral reef touch tanks? Examples from various zoos and past student projects will be provided for inspiration. At the end of the session students will be encouraged to create a video showing off their wonderful zoo creation. Topics Of Discovery: What Is A Zoologist? How Can I Become A Zoologist? What Does A Zookeeper Do In A Day? What Will Be Your Zoo Name? What Zoos Have You Visited? What Animals Will Be At Your Zoo? This course is a short elective type 6 week course with 2 weeks given to finish the zoo project. Given the age range of the class, parents are asked to help the students with some tasks along the way. Please look over the third party tools we will be using. Students will learn about animals using a variety of methods-YouTube videos, zoo websites, live animal cams, and virtual tours from Zoologists. If your child is interested in a specific zoo animal please let Mrs. Collins know. She will be happy to share any resources or images she has of that animal to encourage more curiosity into the field of Zoology.
