US Grade Kindergarten - 1
This is an engaging class that will help learners make basic sentences and write them down. The teacher will begin by showing the class a flashcard or interesting object and ask for a simple sentence. Each learner will write the sentence (the teacher will use the whiteboard for reinforcement). As time allows, they can draw a picture of the sentence. The teacher will check with each student as they are writing and offer encouragement and guidance. The learners will be able to hold up their work to show the teacher and other learners how they are doing. The process will be repeated as time allows. Some groups will work faster or slower than others, but learners can expect to try to write a minimum of three sentences per class. The teacher will use grammatical vocabulary to help students gain exposure to basic parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.), punctuation, and sentence structure. Learners will be encouraged to use proper capitalization as well. The teacher will use handheld flashcards and objects held up in the video feed in most cases. Occasionally, a teacher may screen share an image but there will never be outside websites, links, or accounts needed by the learners. Topics will be determined randomly by flashcards, objects, and pictures the learners or the teacher bring to class. Each session will begin over with new flashcards, object, and/or pictures and be independent of the sessions before or after. As an ongoing class, each class will focus on different topics and sentences to be a completely new learning experience. Learners will not need to assist prior classes to participate and can enroll and withdraw as needed.
