In this first of multiple science lessons about parts of the human body, students will learn the importance of our lungs. Breathe in, breathe out...we take it all for granted but our bodies are amazingly made and the lungs are just one internal organ that is crucial for life. Students will learn how to improve their lung function, will be able to identify the parts of the respiratory system such as the aveoli, the bronchi, and trachea or windpipe, and describe the function of each part, draw a set of lungs with labeled parts and make a model lung.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Your child may need a bit of assistance with the assembly of the model lung at the end of the class. It involves tying balloons, as well as a bit of cutting and stretching of the balloon.
Supply List
paper and pencil, colored pencils or crayons, a 16 oz. plastic soda/water bottle (thicker plastic works the best), plastic straw, an elastic band, scissors, two balloons, small amount of playdoh. Please precut the bottle to about half its size leaving the top intact.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

PHILOSOPHY OF LEARNING:
Every child is capable of learning, although some may learn in different ways. Making learning fun and working hard to learn produces children who want to learn even more! And isn't that our life goal?! Let's make life-long lovers of learning together!
ABOUT ME:
When I'm not in the classroom, I love to spend time outside walking or working in my yard, reading, or spending time with friends. I also like to bake bread and make cookies.
Let me know if you have questions or need additional information! I hope to see your learner soon!
