Class Experience
In this first of multiple science lessons about parts of the human body, students will learn the importance of our lungs. Breathe in, breathe out...we take it all for granted but our bodies are amazingly made and the lungs are just one internal organ that is crucial for life. Students will learn how to improve their lung function, will be able to identify the parts of the respiratory system such as the aveoli, the bronchi, and trachea or windpipe, and describe the function of each part, draw...
paper and pencil, colored pencils or crayons, a 16 oz. plastic soda/water bottle (thicker plastic works the best), plastic straw, an elastic band, scissors, two balloons, small amount of playdoh. Please precut the bottle to about half its size leaving the top intact.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Your child may need a bit of assistance with the assembly of the model lung at the end of the class. It involves tying balloons, as well as a bit of cutting and stretching of the balloon.
