US Grade 2 - 6
Beginner - Advanced Level
This customized science class is designed to meet your learner's unique needs and is based on specific content we have discussed. Possible topics include all elementary-level physical science, earth science, life science, and scientific processes, all aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) guidelines. Content may cover, but is not limited to: The Sun's Role on Earth Earth's Cycles and Systems Force and Motion Properties of Matter Plant and Animal Life Cycles The number of classes per week, days, and times will be tailored to fit your schedule. Each session will focus on inquiry-based science instruction and will include hands-on experiences, valid scientific procedures, engaging videos, digital animations, and interactive slides presented through NearPod and/or Google Slides. Students will be encouraged to ask questions, design their own investigations, and pursue their scientific interests. The frequency and timing of classes are flexible and will be arranged collaboratively between parents and the teacher prior to the start of the class. Lessons will be adapted to accommodate any learning challenges or accelerate learning, ensuring a truly personalized educational experience

Lessons may occasionally include animations or videos from:
NASA.gov (embedded within the NearPod lesson)
Demonstrations by scientists using screen sharing during the lesson on YouTube
Some interactive activities through PBS Learning Media or Smithsonian Learning Lab embedded into the NearPod lesson
Google slides created and screen shared by teacher during lesson.
None of these resources require student accounts.

Supplies will vary by content, but will be easy to obtain materials to be found around the house. Some printing may be required.

I have been sharing my love of science and math with elementary students in public schools for over 26 years. I served most of that time in the classroom and then moved into Instructional Coaching to help other teachers improve their practice in those areas. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.
Science classes with Ms. Susan are fun, engaging, and hands on, with an inquiry approach in everything we do. My goal is to latch on to the natural curiosity children have about the world around them and use that to explore science and math concepts in a rich and meaningful way. I believe in teaching in ways that children learn, using strategies and activities that foster a love of learning. As a retired teacher, I am not bound by district or state policies and I am able to use fun, creative lessons to instill the academics that children need to master, not the ones they need to pass state assessments.
One of my favorite quotes from Carl Sagan sums up my approach to science education - "Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge." In Ms. Susan's Super Science and Math classes, students will be challenged to think!Reviews
