In this class, school-aged children, ages 5, 6, 7 and 8
will experience a piano lesson, that will introduce them to playing a song and other important basics of the piano.

In this class your child will learn proper siting position at the keyboard/piano and proper hand positions. I will also introduce the finger numbers to them. My style is interactive and I will listen to each student play. Student do not require any previous experience in piano. I will go over the black keys in the C4 octave. I will introduce them to listening to high, low and middle notes with a listening activity. The student will learn a simple song, Hot Cross Buns, on the black keys. The student will require a keyboard on a stand or table, or a piano. *****Learners should be set up at a piano, acoustic or electric, in such a way that I can hear them well and see their keyboard. *****
Learning Goals
1) Proper sitting position to play the piano.
2) Proper hand position.
3) Fingering.
4) High and Low notes.
5) A short song to learn and practice after class.

Parental Guidance
I need a parent in the room (off camera) , to guide the child as needed. Thank you.
Supply List
A full sized piano or a keyboard with at least 61 keys. Please put the keyboard on a stand or table for the class.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I have taught children preschool through high school for over 25 years. I have a Bachelor's in Music Education with an emphasis in voice, and have played piano since I was 9 years old. I enjoyed accompanying many of my fellow Music majors for their juries (finals) in college. Knowing the basics gives children the confidence to pursue their favorite instrument and that's an amazing gift.
