Class Description: Beginning Phonics and Decoding: A Journey to Reading Success
Welcome to a fun and engaging live course where we will explore the foundational skills of reading! This 8-week class is designed to teach young learners the basics of phonics and decoding, helping them develop the tools they need to become confident readers. Whether your learner is just starting their reading journey or needs additional support, this course will provide a nurturing environment for growth and success.
What We’ll Learn:
Throughout the course, students will:
	•	Identify and produce letter sounds, including short and long vowels, consonants, digraphs, blends, and r-controlled vowels.
	•	Decode simple words and progress to reading multisyllabic words.
	•	Recognize and use sight words to build reading fluency.
	•	Blend and segment sounds to read and write words.
	•	Apply phonics skills to read simple sentences and stories with confidence.

	•	Letter-sound relationships
	•	Blending and segmenting CVC words
	•	Digraphs and blends
	•	Sight words and high-frequency words
	•	Long vowel patterns, vowel teams, and silent e
	•	R-controlled vowels
	•	Decoding multisyllabic words
	•	Reading fluency and comprehension
How the Class is Structured:
We’ll meet twice a week for 40 minutes in a live, interactive session. Each class will follow a consistent and engaging structure:
	1.	Warm-Up Activity: Quick games or songs to review prior skills.
	2.	Mini-Lesson: Direct teaching of new concepts using slides, short videos, and demonstrations.
	3.	Practice Time: Hands-on activities like blending games, word building with magnetic letters, or sentence practice.
	4.	Application: Reading decodable texts, playing phonics games, or writing simple sentences.
	5.	Wrap-Up: A fun review activity or discussion to celebrate learning.
Teaching Style:
As your teacher, I bring enthusiasm, warmth, and energy to every lesson! I believe learning should be fun and engaging, and I strive to create a positive and inclusive environment where all students feel encouraged to participate. I incorporate a variety of teaching methods, including:
	•	Lectures: Short, clear explanations to introduce new concepts.
	•	Games: Interactive activities to reinforce learning in a playful way.
	•	Slides and Visuals: Colorful, easy-to-follow materials to support understanding.
	•	Video Clips: Brief, engaging videos to demonstrate key ideas.

My teaching is highly interactive and student-centered. I adapt to the needs of my learners, using praise and encouragement to build their confidence.
Interaction with the Teacher:
Students will have plenty of opportunities to interact with me during live sessions. I’ll guide them through activities, ask questions to spark their thinking, and provide individual feedback during practice. I’m always here to support and celebrate their progress!
