Description

Class Experience

Students will improve a specific math skill over the course of the lesson. Examples would be double digit adding, division, or any other elementary math topic requested.
I am a licensed elementary special education teacher with four years of teaching experience. Math is one of the two major subject areas, the other is reading, that I teach with my students at school.
There will be no homework unless the parent requests additional practice.
The learner only needs an example of the math difficulty from his or her place of learning; paper and pencil to write with, or the ability to use a virtual whiteboard (such as apple pencil and iPad, or a touchscreen pc and Microsoft Whiteboard.) If there is any need of explanation or accommodation for these, I am always happy to help.
As this is a one time course, progress will be measured within that course time. I will follow up with each parent as to the strengths and weaknesses at the start of the class and at the end of the class, as well as any work we use during the class.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
There is no inappropriate content of any kind in this course. Word problems and questions for understanding will be age appropriate, not to exceed a typical fifth grade level.
As a baseline, we will use the methods of teaching offered by three different mathematical approaches: Delta Math, Illustrative Mathematics, and the teaching methods in the Georgia Numeracy Project. Other methods and tools may be used in accordance with student need.
