Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
In the first class, students will take turns introducing themselves and sharing where they live on the teacher's map. The teacher will moderate and ask age-appropriate questions based on student's abilities and understanding. We may have free time to share something personal. If there is a barrier in our communication, we will use other methods to communicate (drawing, gestures, realia). The goal will be to move from gestures and drawings to spoken sentences with proper grammar, pronunciation, and pace. If your student is feeling like they may want to work privately, instead of in a group setting, I do provide one on one English conversation as well. Please check my profile for more classes that I offer. Feel free to invite your children's friends to our class, the more kids that share the better!
Each week, students will be asked to bring something to the class - for example, a toy, a picture, or favorite food. Students will be encouraged to practice speaking English at home. This is not required but encouraged.
Pencil and Paper for notes. A sense of humor. Patience. A smile ! Students will be allowed to use objects from their homes - nothing special is required for this class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The learner's progress will be assessed with an informal assessment. Is the student able to correctly use English to communicate? Is the student progressing from a one-word phrase to using sentences? Can the student speak freely and confidently in English, using vocabulary and skills presented during the lessons?
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Pictures, flashcards, and props will be used to encourage communication in English. Students may be allowed to show objects from their own homes. Sharing about something that they love will help them to become comfortable with speaking to their classmates.
