𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘄𝗸𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸! Imagine stepping off the plane in Brazil, ready to soak in the vibrant energy and connect with locals—only to freeze up when it’s time to speak. Or maybe you’re at a family gathering, surrounded by Brazilian relatives, wishing you could jump into the conversation instead of just nodding along. Whether it’s for travel or family connections, not knowing how to speak confidently can leave you feeling stuck and frustrated. Learning Portuguese shouldn’t feel like just another boring language class! Unlike typical language apps or YouTube videos, we go beyond memorizing vocabulary and grammar drills. In this class, learners practice real conversations and use practical phrases that they can immediately put to use. Each week, we introduce a Phrase of the Week that matches our theme, giving learners a key phrase to focus on and practice throughout the lesson. Whether they’re planning a birthday party, making new friends, or ordering food at a café, learners build confidence by using language in real-world scenarios. From talking about their favorite animals at the zoo to asking for directions during an adventure, this class brings Brazilian Portuguese to life through engaging themes and practical language. Learners leave each session with skills they can actually use—plus the confidence to speak naturally without feeling stuck. EDMARA ALVES
I'm 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗻 and raised in the countryside of São Paulo. I hold a Bachelor Degree in First and Primary Education with a Tesol Diploma studied in Australia. I have over 10 years of experience teaching in public and private schools for kids and adults. I also have experience working in language schools in Brazil and in the United States. I love learning new things as much as teaching.
ELLIE
I’m Ellie, a tutor with over 8 years teaching and tutoring experience. I began by developing my own curriculum to teach piano and voice lessons, then expanded into private tutoring for Spanish and Writing. While pursuing my degree in 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 & 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗨𝗖 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘆, I started tutoring advanced subjects, including SAT and AP Exam preparation.
I've worked with two professional tutoring organizations where I mentored elementary and middle school students in their homes as well as where I currently instruct students online in SAT prep, AP Spanish, AP English, and AP History. Additionally, as an Assistant Camp Manager for, I gained valuable experience managing large classrooms and catering to neurodivergent children.
My teaching philosophy centers on adapting to each student’s unique needs to create a positive, dynamic learning environment. I find it incredibly rewarding to witness students achieve new levels of success and gain confidence in their abilities. Beyond helping my students excel in their courses, I aim to equip them with lifelong skills in studying, time management, and self-directed learning.
