What's included
6 live meetings
3 in-class hoursHomework
2-4 hours per week. Students need to read the book before attending each meeting. (If the text is too hard for your child to understand, parents may feel free to read sections aloud to the child for better enjoyment of the novel or have your child listen to the story with an audiobook version.) To help students prepare for our group discussion, they must review the provided discussion questions. They should be prepared to share their thoughts verbally during our book club meetings.Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 5
Want to be the leading lady in your own life? In this book club, we will discuss a new book with strong female characters that are quirky and unique every two weeks. Join us in a round-table discussion about the character traits that make the character(s) of the book the leading ladies of their own lives. We will discuss the character traits (grit, bravery, selflessness, integrity, positivity, etc.) of the heroine(s). Then you will connect them to your own lives to help you learn what it takes to be the leading lady of your own life. Students should have basic background knowledge of character traits. This class will encourage a love of reading while fostering a community of readers. We will practice literacy skills, while at the same time, empowering students to be the heroine of their own lives. This will be a safe place for girls to share their thoughts as everyone will have a chance to participate. Learners will read sections of the book prior to each meeting. Book Club meetings will typically follow this pattern: Review of main events, favorite quotes, character traits of the main characters, applying traits to our own lives, and a fun discussion. Below is a list of the books we will be discussing. Week of June 25th: Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo: Chapters 1-13 Week of July 8th: Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo: Chapters 14-End Week of July 15th: The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carlson Levine: Chapters 1-16 Week of July 22nd: The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carlson Levine: Chapters 17-End Week of August 5th: Beezus & Romona by Beverly Cleary: Chapters 1-3 Week of August 12th: Beezus & Romona by Beverly Cleary: Chapters 4-End Discussion questions will be attached to the classroom before each meeting.
