In this 2 day reading comprehension class, we will read and "Eleanor" by Barbara Cooney, reviewing sequencing, questioning & cause/effect through a kid-friendly nonfiction text. Photographs and videos will enhance the learner’s experience!

Description
Class Experience
In "Eleanor: Before Becoming First Lady of the United States," students will read the true story of Eleanor Roosevelt's childhood and the events that shaped her ability to lead beside her husband, Franklin D. Roosevelt, in some of the most challenging years in United States history. This descriptive book is certain to capture your child's heart as we discuss how Eleanor impacted both women and history while overcoming her own difficult childhood. Students will gain understanding of vocabulary and the humble beginnings of an important historical figure who impacted women's rights, global politics, and social justice. Students will talk and write, gaining valuable communication skills as they apply their knowledge from the text.
I have enjoyed 25 years in the public school system and have the following experience: *Currently teaching middle school ELA Elementary Education--certified (with preschool, elementary, and middle school teaching experience) Preschool Special Education--certified Gifted and Talented Endorsement Reading Endorsement Education Administration
Students are asked to complete their assignment if they do not finish before class is over. Students/parents are welcome and encouraged to send me the student's work through Outschool if they would like it proofread and/or would like some additional feedback on the student's writing.
Paper and pencil The book "Eleanor" by Barbara Cooney will be read with your child using a document camera, so there is no need to purchase the book unless you would like to do so!
Students will be assessed informally through participation, questioning, and by completing a written response and drawing based on the book we read. (Note: We will review pre-writing strategies for young writers who do not yet write words.) Students are asked to complete their assignment if they do not finish before class is over. Students/parents are welcome and encouraged to send the student's work to me through Outschool if they would like it proofread and/or would like some additional feedback on the student's writing.
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
