This class is taught in English.

Following are examples of some of the Language Arts standards that I cover: 

• Reading Standards: Text analysis, identifying the main idea, central idea, and theme; using context clues to determine the meaning of words or phrases, text marking/annotations, analyzing text structure, mood, tone, and point-of-view.
• Writing Standards: Unpacking a prompt, identifying the major modes of writing, creating a claim/thesis, incorporating and citing text evidence, using elaboration to enhance a point, revising sentence structure, capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and spelling. Please note, I specialize in helping students recognize their own voice in writing!! :) 
• Listening and Speaking Standards: Engaging in collaborative discussions, analyzing text in a discussions by using text evidence and inferencing, using appeals in persuasive speaking, identifying and using argumentative language in debates. Researching and preparing multi-media presentations.

Homework is optional and based on student needs and parent requests.

After each session, I will forward a brief note in which I'll communicate observations and suggested "next steps".
