Description
Class Experience
Led by a former Special Education teacher, this course is specially designed for students with disabilities, providing highly structured instruction using visual prompts, repetition, and differentiated scaffolding. Guided by the "I do, we do, you do" model of instruction, we'll explore the power of visual storytelling. Prepare to sharpen your observation skills as we examine each picture, discussing its elements and brainstorming what might be happening. Throughout the class, we'll foster...
I am a former Special Education teacher, specializing in literacy. I have previously created courses for students with moderate to severe disabilities in middle school.
Students must have lined paper appropriate for their writing ability and a pencil. They may also have crayons or color pencils if they would like to draw their own picture to go with their story. I suggest a journal so they can preserve their writing such as this: https://www.amazon.com/Mead-Composition-Notebook-Primary-09902/dp/B001F38YWM/ref=psdc_12900091_t1_B003U6SCHE
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
I will be using carefully curated videos and resources within Nearpod. I will use Nearpod in the teacher-directed mode. Students may choose to create a free Nearpod account and have two windows open to participate in student activities. Or, students can watch through my shared screen and participate through annotation. Nearpod is an approved third-party educational tool. It is rated as excellent through Common Sense Education. You may see their review here: https://www.commonsense.org/education/app/nearpod.
