Merlin Missions are more challenging adventures for lovers of the original Magic Tree House books! Time-travel through history with Jack and Annie while practicing your language arts skills with new friends! In this exciting book club, we will meet once a week to discuss the Merlin Missions book of the week. Each of these books stands alone, so students can join for one class or stay for as many as they would like! For this section, we will discuss books #1-#24 in the historical fantasy fiction series. All of the reading should be done outside of class before the discussion. However, we will do a small amount of guided reading in class to practice skills and improve comprehension. For the rest of class time, we will discuss the book, share our favorite parts, work on vocabulary and comprehension skills, and play a Kahoot! game related to the book. *** Please feel free to message me if you do not see a date/time that works for your schedule. I am usually able to add sections to accommodate different time zones. *** Upcoming Summer 2023 Class Reading Schedule: Week of June 12: Christmas in Camelot #1 Week of June 19: Haunted Castle on Hallows Eve #2 Week of June 26: Summer of the Sea Serpent #3 Week of July 3: Winter of the Ice Winter #4 Week of July 10: Carnival at Candlelight #5 Week of July 17: Season of the Sandstorm #6 Week of July 24: Night of the New Magicians #7 Week of July 31: Blizzard of the Blue Moon #8 Week of August 7: Dragon of the Red Dawn #9 Week of August 14: Monday with a Mad Genius #10 Week of August 21: Dark Day in the Deep Sea #11 Week of August 28: Eve of the Emperor Penguin #12 TBD: Moonlight on the Magic Flute #13 TBD: A Good Night for Ghosts #14 TBD: Leprechaun in Late Winter #15 TBD: A Ghost Tale for Christmas #16 TBD: A Crazy Day with Cobras #17 TBD: Dogs in the Dead of Night #18 TBD: Abe Lincoln at Last #19 TBD: A Perfect Time for Pandas #20 TBD: Stallion by Starlight #21 TBD: Hurry Up, Houdini! #22 TBD: High Time for Heroes #23 TBD: Soccer on Sunday #24 During each class students will improve their reading, vocabulary, and comprehension skills by doing the following: - Review new/challenging vocabulary words as we discuss each book - Choose their favorite part of each book to share and read aloud - Discuss each chapter and the story elements - Play a Kahoot! game to check for comprehension ***Note: Students must bring their own copy of the book of the week to class each week.
