Class Experience

Students will work across ELA standards indicated for fourth grade (see for more information).

Students will be met where they are. I aim for progress and application rather than perfection.

I am a former Special Education teacher with experience in differentiating materials for learners at various levels. I also have training in the Science of Reading, Orton-Gillingham, and certification in TESOL. I will work with your learner to meet their needs. My goal is for the student to feel challenged but also successful.
Homework will be assigned weekly. Students should expect at least 30 minutes of additional work per class (approximately 1-2 hours per week). This may include writing, completing assignments given in class, or outside reading.
Students must have a dedicated notebook for this class. They should come prepared each day with their notebook, any handouts, pencils, and colored pencils.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
I will be using carefully curated videos and resources within Nearpod. I will use Nearpod in the teacher-directed mode. Students may choose to create a free Nearpod account and have two windows open to participate in student activities. Or, students can watch through my shared screen and participate through annotation. Nearpod is an approved third-party educational tool. It is rated as excellent through Common Sense Education.
