What's included
1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
1. Class will begin with expectations, introductions and students will name animals that they already know lay eggs. 2. Teacher will read "Chickens Aren't the Only Ones," by Ruth Heller and discuss text during reading. Teacher will insert video clips and real pictures of animals which lay eggs. 3. Students will be able to explain what oviparous (an animal that lays eggs) and viviparous (an animal that gives live birth) mean. 4. As a group, we will fill in a graphic organizer, or bubble map, of oviparous animals sorting by animal classes (mammal, fish, amphibian, bird, arthropods (insects, arachnids and crustaceans) and reptiles). We will color code our bubble maps. Students may start with a pre-printed graphic organizer attached to the class notes, or use a piece of plain, white paper to start a brand new bubble map. 5. Students will then volunteer to show their bubble map and name three new oviparous animals that they had just learned about.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to organize and compare animals which lay eggs. They will be able to define the words oviparous and viviparous.
