US Grade 3 - 5
This one-time class will combine two of my favorite things: science and food! We will use Oreos and other snack foods to demonstrate how each of the three types of rocks are formed, and the processes they go through to transform into one of the other types. Please note that the supplies are *optional.* I will be demonstrating in class, so students are welcome to just watch, or do the experiments along with me, at home. Also note: this could get messy, so I recommend putting down newspaper under your child's workspace. I will also be showing rock samples from this Rock Science Kit from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002IF7NZU?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image. ($11.99) This is also *optional* but helpful. They can use a print-out which shows similar rocks instead, or just follow along with me. Students will be encouraged, but not required, to participate in class discussions and experiments. *Class time given is approximate and can vary, depending on the amount of student interaction*

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Christine and I am a Colorado native. I have two awesome sons, who are 11 and 21. I love to travel, explore, learn and teach about nature! I have been to all 50 US states, about 22 countries and I can't wait to finally get to see the rest of the world!!
I have an Associate of Science, in geology, and a Bachelors in geography and environmental studies from the University of Colorado.
I have taught science, in a variety of settings, over the past 18 years. During that time, I also worked as a tour guide at a local commercial cave! Geology rocks isn't just a catchy pun, it's a passion! I teach a variety of geography and geology-related classes. My classes combine lots of interaction with hands-on learning. I find that most people retain more information through doing something than just reading about it.
