Class Experience

Hello families, and welcome to my Edible Creations class! This class will meet once each week for a fun, hands-on and delicious experience! This is a subscription class that you can join and leave at anytime. We will have a different edible creation, or food craft, for each week. Some weeks S.T.E.M. or S.T.E.A.M. will be involved.

I will be posting the supplies needed each week, as well as the theme of our weekly edible creation. I understand that learners are from different countries all over the world. Feel free to make substitutions if there are items you cannot find in your country. Students may feel free to bring a show and tell item that goes along with our weekly theme.

Weekly Breakdown:

1. Week of April 24th:
Theme - Traffic Lights
We will learn the colors on a traffic light and what they mean. We will sing the "Traffic Lights" song and create a traffic light to eat. Students may bring a toy vehicle or book for show and tell.
Supplies needed:
- a few rectangular graham crackers
- peanut butter, Nutella, or other spread
- candy that comes in red, yellow, and green (I use m&ms.)
- plastic knife for spreading peanut butter or Nutella

2. Week of May 1st:
Theme - The Moon
We will learn about the different phases of the moon. I will screenshare the books, Read and Do: Science Sun and Moon, by: Melinda Lilly and Moon, by: Vanessa Black. Students may bring a space toy or book for show and tell.
Supplies needed:

3. Week of May 8th:
Theme - Apples
We will learn about the parts of an apple. I will screenshare the book, Grow With Me Apple, by: Valerie Bodden. The students will learn how apple trees grow. Varieties of apples will be discussed and a list will be shown from Let's Explore Apples, by: Jill Colella. Students can share with the class what variety of apple is their favorite. Students will also learn the parts of an apple from What Happens in Fall? - Apples in Fall, by: Mari Schuh. I will also screenshare the book, Watch an Apple Grow, by: Kirsten Chang. If time allows, we will draw and discuss the Life Cycle of an Apple. We will make Apple Smiles.
Supplies needed:
- 1 apple
- peanut butter

- Since a plastic knife won't cut an apple well, an adult will need to assist the child in using a real knife to cut the apple into slices. A circular apple slicer is also a nice option.

4. Week of May 15th:
Theme - Owls
Whooooo's hungry? Students will learn about the features of baby owls. I will screenshare the book, Baby Owls, by: Deanna Caswell. We will read together, I See Animals: Owl, by: August Hoeft. We will build an owl with food. Students may bring an owl toy or book for show and tell.

-Scaffolding:
I constantly evaluate the progress of my students and adjust my teaching to meet their needs.

-Student Encouragement:
Celebrating wins with students is my delight! I want them to know that I am happy to help them learn and I want them to succeed!

My hobbies include kayaking, swimming, and quilling paper art. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family at Lake Hartwell, Georgia, U.S.A., where I live with my husband, three children, and our bordoodle Princess. I hope to teach your learner soon!
