Class Experience
Hello families, and welcome to my Edible Creations FLEX class! This class is a fun, hands-on, and delicious experience! Using food, we will create unique pieces of art to eat! I understand that learners are from different countries all around the world. Feel free to make substitutions if there are food items you cannot find in your country. Most important: BE CREATIVE and HAVE FUN!! Here's what to expect from my FLEX class: - I will post a class video every Monday morning EST. Your learner has one week to watch and make the edible creation of the week. Please post pictures of your finished creations in our classroom so that we can all admire your child's work! :-) - I will post book suggestions to go along with what we are making each week. Some books can be found on EPIC Books and some are not there. Hopefully between EPIC, your local library, and your home library you can find most of the books that I recommend, or similar ones. The students can read the books themselves or a parent or sibling can read to them. The idea is that the student will learn more about the animal or object that they are building that week. - Since we will not be meeting live in real time, it makes show-and-tell time a bit challenging, however we will still have it! :-) I love show-and-tell time and I will mention it in each video. I will show something that goes along with the class and then I will ask students to type in the classroom about something, or post a picture of something special they want to share with the class. Parental Guidance
Students will need to use knives in this class. I try to remember to speak safety reminders in my videos, however, sometimes I forget to mention safety while I'm teaching. Please be close to your learner at all times and speak to your child about the knives they are allowed to use. Prior to taking this class, please practice cutting up fruit with them. Or if you prefer to sit beside them in class and cut the fruit for them, that is also acceptable.
Please also check over the supplies list and look at all the ingredients to ensure a safe kitchen experience. I realize that some students may be allergic to nuts, and therefore cannot use peanut butter. Please check all ingredients in the supplies list to check for possible allergens such as nuts, wheat, dairy, eggs, or soy.
I've listed books that are available on EPIC Books. https://www.getepic.com/promo
An EPIC account is not required for this class. Students certainly may check out books on the topic from the library instead of using EPIC. If you do decide to use EPIC, students may read one free book each day on a free account. If you want a one month free trial to Unlimited EPIC, I can provide that for you. With the Unlimited account, your child may read as many books as they want each day.
