Description
Class Experience
Learners will learn to practice basic baking safety. Learners will learn how to handle pastry dough and make palmiers. Learners will understand the chemical reactions that make their baked goods puffy and golden brown.
I have been baking since I was a child since my family is filled with fantastic bakers. I have a particular love of baking cakes and pastries, and my friends and family can't get enough of them. I love sharing my baked goods and teaching others to make great baked goods that they can share. I have a degree in biochemistry, so I am fascinated with the chemical processes of baking. I am continuously working on developing my baking skills and adding new bakes to my repertoire. Over 500 learners have taken my baking classes on Outschool.
For homework, learners will taste test their bakes, clean up their kitchen work area, and post a comment or picture of their finished pastries to the classroom.
Enrolled Learners and Parents will be provided with a complete list of ingredients one week before the class starts. Recipes and materials list will be posted in the classroom. Materials needed for this class include an oven, baking sheets, oven mitts or potholders, rolling pin, pastry brush, knife for cutting pastry, parchment paper (optional), a small bowl and a fork
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
A parent should be in the house while learners are using the oven and working in the kitchen. The recipe used in the class includes wheat flour, egg, and dairy, which are potential allergens. Please contact the teacher before the class for suggested ingredient substitutions.
