Meet me in the kitchen every week. Each class will be a chance to learn new baking skills and techniques and add to our baking knowledge and skills. I teach this class using presentations, demonstrations, and discussions. I may include short videos in some of the sessions. Learners may choose to follow along with me as I demonstrate baking skills included in the recipe of the week, or they may choose to watch and bake the recipe at their own pace after class. Learners will add to their baking skills and techniques and develop confidence using recipes and essential baking skills with any recipe. I will post ingredient lists and recipes by 5 PM Pacific Time each Sunday preceding the week. A basic supplies list will be posted in the classroom and any special supplies needed for a particular week will be included with the weekly list. If you have any questions about ingredients or substitutions, please message me before the day of class. In some classes, we will have time to finish the bake. But in classes where the baking time needed exceeds the class time, we will end the class with the bake in the oven. Learners will be given instructions on how to tell when the bake is done. Each class will teach a key baking technique and use that skill in a recipe. Parental Guidance
Parental guidance is needed in assisting the student in the kitchen as students will be using items such as ovens, microwaves, mixers, knives, or other cooking equipment. Parents should be available in case of accidents or emergencies and ensure the learner knows how to properly operate the kitchen equipment. We will discuss safety in class. Outschool policy is that parents remain off-camera and only the enrolled learner may participate. Families need to notify the instructor ASAP about any potential allergies. Substitutions can be made for many, but not all of the recipes. Each family is responsible for knowing what ingredients their family can have. Please contact the instructor for any questions.
There is a 3 student minimum in this class. Please share the class with friends. If the minimum number is not met within 72 hours of the class, the class will either a) pushed back to start at a later date or b) canceled.
Learners will be instructed in food safety and kitchen safety during class and how to tell when foods are safely cooked.
Supply List
Enrolled Learners and Parents will be provided with a complete list of ingredients for each week and materials at least one week before the first class starts. Basic baking tools include a digital scale (which weighs ounces and grams), set of measuring spoons, baking sheet pans, mixing bowls, pastry brush, cooling rack, rolling pin, cutting board, grater, parchment paper or silicone pan liner, various pans (loaf, cake, muffin, will be specified for each week), bowl scraper, sifter, flat heatproof bakers spatula, whisk, ruler or yardstick (cut in half), either a stand mixer or a hand mixer.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been baking since I was a child since my family is filled with fantastic bakers. I have a particular love of baking cakes and pastries. I love sharing my baked goods and teaching others to make great baked goods that they can share. I have a degree in biochemistry, so I am fascinated with the chemical processes of baking. I am continuously working on developing my baking skills and adding new bakes to my repertoire. Over 500 learners have taken my baking classes on Outschool.
