Welcome to Habitat Adventurers: Exploring Earth’s Wild Worlds, an exciting and interactive class designed to take students on a hands-on journey through the amazing ecosystems and habitats found around the globe. In this class, we will dive deep into the different environments that support life on Earth—ranging from lush rainforests and vast deserts to the depths of the ocean and icy Arctic tundras. Each week, students will explore a new habitats, learning about the plants, animals, and unique features that make each one special. They will gain a deeper understanding of how living things interact with their environment, how ecosystems work together, and how humans impact these delicate systems. Through engaging lessons, creative activities, and fun experiments, students will build a comprehensive understanding of the importance of protecting our planet's diverse ecosystems. Key Areas of Focus: Ecosystem Fundamentals: Students will learn what ecosystems and habitats are, how they function, and why they are essential to life on Earth. They will discover the roles of producers, consumers, and decomposers in an ecosystem. Global Ecosystems: Each week focuses on a specific ecosystem, including rainforests, deserts, oceans, forests, grasslands, and the Arctic. Students will learn about the unique characteristics of each and the plants and animals that thrive there. Interconnections in Nature: We will explore the interdependence of organisms within ecosystems, teaching students about food chains, food webs, and the nutrient cycles that sustain life. Environmental Stewardship: As future stewards of the planet, students will also learn about the challenges ecosystems face today, such as climate change and pollution, and what they can do to protect and preserve the environment. Learning Activities Include: Interactive Exploration: Through virtual field trips, games, and videos, students will explore ecosystems around the world. Hands-on Projects: Students will engage in activities such as creating mini ecosystems, building animal habitats, and conducting simple experiments to understand the role of water, sunlight, and soil in supporting life. Creative Expression: Throughout the course, students will have opportunities to design their own ecosystems, create animal models, and showcase what they’ve learned through art and storytelling. Discussion & Reflection: Students will participate in group discussions where they can share observations, ask questions, and reflect on the importance of protecting the environment.
Learning Goals
Develop Curiosity: Ignite students' interest in the natural world by encouraging them to ask questions and explore ecosystems in a fun and engaging way.
Foster Environmental Awareness: Teach the importance of maintaining a balance in nature and the need

Over the last 15 years of teaching, I’ve had the opportunity to teach science in a variety of settings, from classroom teaching to homeschooling. I’ve worked with students in both 1st, 2nd and 4th grades and seen how powerful it is when students truly connect with the natural world.
Teaching science has always been a joy for me because it lets students explore and discover, making learning both meaningful and memorable. I truly believe that science is all around us, and I love helping students connect their curiosity to the world of discovery.
