Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Why should learners explore economics? Well, economics is all about the fact that individuals, businesses, and governments all have wants and needs. However, resources are limited (obviously).
So... choices MUST be made. How and why these choices are made are real-world economics.

Weekly materials will be posted on Monday of each week, by 11am EST.
The weekly materials will include:
-An interactive Nearpod, that learners will be expected to complete during the week.
*Anyone needing additional time can access it for 3 weeks.
-A PDF with key vocabulary/ideas and SEVERAL optional activities (to meet the needs of a variety of learners).
-An optional student guide, as a note-taking resource.
I will interact within the Nearpods throughout each week and also provide individualized feedback and comments through the Outschool learner messaging portal.

No prior knowledge is required, and the age-range is flexible. This is an introductory class, so learners looking for a more advanced level should consider communicating with me before enrolling.

This class is intended to provide learners with a real-world understanding of economic concepts. We will discuss a range of macro and microeconomic concepts and practice thinking like an economist. More importantly, learners will analyze how economic principles affect everyday life choices.

The optional activities mentioned above are included for review, to provide more depth of knowledge, or for additional challenge. Examples of the optional, additional activities include: simulations, video clips, games, discussions, suggested readings, and other interactive learning opportunities.

Schedule:
Week 1: Introduction
Week 2: The Basics of Economics
Week 3: Microeconomics- part 1
Week 4: Microeconomics- part 2

I believe learning should be fun and I strive to create inclusive and welcoming classes! I want all learners and parents to be 100% happy with the quality of all of my classes. Any concerns, questions, or ideas for improvement should be communicated asap, so that adjustments can be made accordingly. Obviously, the more a learner engages with the course content, the more they will get out of the course. Communication between learners and parents, regarding the expectations for optional things, is important!

This is the FLEX version of a similar "live" class I offer on Outschool. Please also refer to those parental reviews for more insights regarding the learner/parental satisfaction of the content provided.

Supply List
I will supply all of the materials required for this class.

As an extended and completely optional part of the course- I recommend incorporating the book 'Freakonomics Revised and Expanded Edition' by Steven Levitt, 2020. A few (but not all) of the chapters will be included in the suggested/optional asynchronous activities, to allow learners to explore the economic concepts that we're discussing in unique and interesting ways! This book is listed on Amazon (as new) for around $13.
