Homework
2-4 hours per week. Reading the book, defining unknown words, and answering reading comprehension questions will take more time to complete than other activities.
Assessment
Students will submit the RACE response for teacher feedback. Blooket scores will be used to assess reading comprehension skills.

Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
World War II is an important historical event that is covered in history classes today. This course is designed to introduce readers to what life was like during this time period and basic information about the war. 

Through completing class activities, students will practice reading comprehension skills with an informational passage and a grade level novel (Number the Stars by Lois Lowry) by using effective note-taking skills, identifying plot events, describing characters, determining problems, defining vocabulary words, recognizing themes, and writing a RACE response with text evidence (quotes). 

The teacher will review submitted work and Blooket scores and provide weekly progress report messages on Fridays (if work was completed).

*Practice reading comprehension skills with a nonfiction passage by using note-taking skills, defining unknown words, and answering reading comprehension questions. 
*Practice reading comprehension skills by reading a grade level book, identifying plot events, describing characters, defining unknown words, and answering reading comprehension questions

Lesson 1:
Note-Taking Skills
 View video lesson, complete guided notes, and play Blooket. 
Lesson 2:
Life During WWII
 Read informational text and practice note-taking skills 
Lesson 3:
Life During WWII Vocabulary & Questions
 Define unknown words and write reading comprehension answers 
Lesson 4:
Number the Stars
 Chapter  1-6 -focus on reading comprehension, vocabulary, characters, plot, and important quotes.

Learning Needs
This course accommodates those with ADHD, Autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia, etc.). Pre-reading videos and answer key videos are included. Message the instructor for additional accommodations :)
Parental Guidance
This class mentions Hitler, Swastika, Jews, and death as it pertains to World War II. There is no mention of concentration camps or the word 'Holocaust'.
Supply List
*Students should have a copy of Number the Stars by Lois Lowry with them at home. The book can be found at the local library and online.
