Description
Class Experience
Students will learn about positive reinforcement training for dogs and puppies. Students will be able to apply positive reinforcement to their pets by the end of the class. Positive reinforcement is when a favorable outcome, event, or reward occurs after an action that particular response or behavior will be strengthened. Positive reinforcement involves the additional of reinforcing stimulus following a behavior that makes it more likely that the behavior will occur again in the future. Students will learn how to use their voice with confidence when asking their dog to do a command. We will go over basic commands such as sit, stay, high five, turn around, and come. I can show you what I have taught my puppy Jett (born 12/03/2019). It is simple. It doesn't have to be hard. Keep your training sessions short and fun. Your dog will love training with you and being trained. Training is a form of communication between you and your dog. We can also talk about teething. I can answer any questions at the end. What will learners learn? I will teach you how to teach your dog or puppy: come or touch sit stay or wait high five turn around Students will learn how to use treats as a positive reward for their dog or puppy. Students will learn how to use praise as a positive reward too. Students will learn what positive reinforcement is and how to use it when training their pet. Each pet is different. Find what motivates your pet. Students will learn basic commands and why it is important. Organization of dog toys: Students will learn how to organize the dog toys any why its important for them to be picked up off the floor at the end of each day(several reasons). How to make a potty and feeding schedule.
None. There is nothing sensitive or high risk in this class for a parent to be worried about.
Homework will involve practicing with your dog with what we have done in class. Practice commands 3-5 times per days for 5-10 minute sessions each time. Step by step directions for each command will be provided on google slides and explained in class..
Lots of soft chewy puppy or dog treats. Smaller the treat the better as we will be dispensing lots of them to the dog/puppy. A leash and dog collar. It can be any leash or collar. The best leash is a nylon or leather leash that is 6 feet long. The best training collar I know of is a martingale collar. The leash that I use is a 6 foot nylon leash in any color. The flex leashes are difficult to use when doing the training we are going to do in class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
