Class Experience
In this class we will be making an easy English Trifle and discussing the life of Henry the VIII and his 6 wives. Parents and/or students will need to buy or prepare a vanilla or pound cake before attending the class. If you are preparing a vanilla or white cake mix make sure it has had time to cool before the beginning of the class. (This is a very simple trifle recipe. A true English Trifle is a little more complicated, so I chose this recipe because of the age of the students.) The...
Students will learn the following: --how to make a simple English Trifle. --about the life and wives of Henry the VIII --a very brief overview of who Mary and Edward (Henry's children) were --a short overview of some of the accomplishments of Queen Elizabeth
I graduated with a BA in English for secondary school and a BA in Spanish for teaching all grades. I have taught English, ESL, religious studies, Spanish and History in public and private settings. I have taught grades 2nd through 12th in the public school system. While I was a teacher in the public schools I taught a class on the history of the United States to second language learners ages 11-14. We covered many people and events associated with the founding the United States. The curriculum was approved by the district in which I taught. I began homeschooling in 2013 and teaching history and book study classes to other home school students. History is my passion and I love to make the people, places and events of the past come alive for my students. I have read and studied extensively about American and World War II history, but I enjoy reading all history and have read about many periods and civilizations.
There will not be any homework assigned.
Learners will need a white, yellow or vanilla sheet cake, pound cake or angel food cake, 2 boxes of vanilla pudding, strawberries (or raspberries) and blueberries (frozen of any work fine), sour cream, heavy whipping cream, milk, and one large container of whipped cream.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will not be graded for this class.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will have to use a mixer to mix the pudding, so parents may need to monitor younger students. Two of Henry the VIII's wives were beheaded and I will mention that Henry had them killed. I will not talk about Mary's reign other than to say that she wanted England to be Catholic again. She is known in history as Bloody Mary for her campaign make all the English Catholic again.
This will be a very basic history of Henry and his family. I will use the History.com account of Henry's family.
