Class Experience
In this 10-week essay writing class, your child will be taught how to draft a captivating essay, using only five simple steps. We will breakdown the parts of an essay and learn how to develop each part thoroughly. We will cover topics such as paragraph development, how to write a thesis statement, how to create a reference or list citations, ways to correct grammatical errors, how to write a strong conclusion paragraph and much more. This class is taught in English.
Students will improve their essay writing skills by using the five steps to write about any topic presented. They will learn to create strong introductions, sequential body paragraphs and amazing conclusions. The goal is for them to become confident in their work and do their best regardless of the topic given.
I have an associate and bachelor's degree in early childhood education. I currently have a master's degree in finance and global studies and several years of tutoring (ESL, Math, and ELA) experience with children aged 6 - 18 years old. I have a 120 TESOL certification, which enhanced my current knowledge of language awareness, grammar techniques, approaches to reading and writing, along with paragraph development and materials development.
The assigned homework will be comprised of 10 weeks of topics that will be introduced in the first class. Each student will practice writing an introduction, topic sentence (thesis statement), body and conclusion for each topic throughout the 10-week period. For example, if week one's topic is "My favorite place to go for vacation" - Your child will create an introduction for this topic as homework. Homework will always be done on an individual basis. Homework should take no more than 15 minutes to 30 minutes to complete. Each week that they learn something new should impact the amount of time spent on homework.
Students will need a 1 subject notebook pencil ink pen
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners will be assessed during class, during individual and group sharing times. I will assess their written material and make corrections as needed, during the class.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
The class will not consist of any sensitive topics.
No outside sources are used in class.
